Food Justice

Food Justice is a group centred on all issues of food ethics and food in relation to our environment.

Our primary activity is volunteering with the local organisation Oxford Food Bank, which picks up unsold food from supermarkets and suppliers and distributes it to local community groups, saving these charities thousands of pounds every month.

This helps decrease food waste, reduce the environmental impact of our food supply, alleviate food poverty, and increases the nutrition in the diets of those in need. It's a pretty simple concept: good food is being thrown out while people are going hungry, so why not bring the food to people who need it?

So what does volunteering with us involve?

Student volunteers commit to one morning (approx. 2 hours) every fortnight as a passenger in the Oxford Food Bank van, helping to collect and drop off the food. We also have a committee that meets to discuss more general issues of food ethics, and how we can raise awareness and decrease food waste in Oxford and beyond.

To find out more about volunteering or joining the committee, get in touch with Alex at foodjustice@oxfordhub.org - we'd love to hear from you!
